Welcome to The Belly Rules

September 13, 2020

We're going to get this blog up and running as best we can. The blog I had was deleted. I don't know why or who did it, but it's gone. It was hard for me to understand why it happened and it's taken me a few months to decide what I really needed to do. Do I want to start another one from scratch or try to get this one straightened out and running right. As you can see, I've decided to work with this one.

You'll find alot of recipes don't have pictures yet. As I go through all my pictures I'll try to add them. Please be patient. It's going to take me a while to get everything straight. I've got alot to go through.

As always - if there's something special you're looking for, drop me a note and I'll see what I can find.  My email address is:  powell.marsha9@gmail.com

Thank you all for following along with me on Pinterest and on Facebook. I really appreciate it.  Stick around and see what I can cook up!

It's been quite a while since I updated with new recipes. It's so hot here in Texas that I just haven't felt like being in the kitchen. But, I decided to turn up the AC and get busy. Here are a few recipes for you. I hope you like them!

We've had some beautiful sunny weather for over a week now. Things seem to be drying out nicely. Thankfully, our drought is over and all water restrictions have been lifted. Unfortunately, for me, it's just too hot to be out and about. Temps are in the mid 90's and it's quite humid. I only go when I have to. So, I have a couple of wonderful recipes for you. I made the Ultimate Pasta Salad last night to go with our hamburgers. Yummy! Then, I baked up some 6 Banana Banana Bread. You won't believe how wonderfully moist it is! I also made some with strawberries.  As always, click on the picture to take you to the recipe. Enjoy!

It looks like the rain is finally over in Texas. Thankfully! We were lucky that we didn't get the flooding that was in Dallas. But, we live in an apartment and the parking lot has stayed at least an inch under water. Today, the sun is shining and the water has disappeared from the parking lot. At least now, we can take the trash to the dumpster without having to put on rubber boots!
This week I have a couple of recipes that are soooooo good! I know you're going to love them. The Vanilla Pudding Cinnamon Rolls will take a bit of time, but they're well worth the effort. The Banana Bread, Bread Pudding is absolutely delicious and a great change from the normal. Click on the pictures to take you to the recipes.

It's been a while since I posted anything. Chalk it up to just being lazy. LOL! Anyway, I decided this year that I wasn't going to buy another one of those pre-packaged corned beefs. Too many preservatives for me! So, looking around, I found the perfect recipe. When I was growing up, my Mom always shopped at this wonderful little market which was owned by a nice Jewish family. They made their own corned beef and it was sooooooo good! I haven't had any since I was a kid. Alton Brown (Food Network) has the perfect recipe. I have a dear friend who suggested adding a bottle of Guiness which was a suggestion from an Irish friend of hers. I didn't do that this time, but I will next time!
So, I've posted the recipes for the corned beef (Here), Irish Soda Bread (Here), Guiness Chocolate Cake (Here), Cheeseburger Casserole (Here) and Chicken Pot Pie (Here). Enjoy!

I've got 4 yummy recipes for you today. Chicken Enchilada Casserole with Chili Gravy (Here), Guiness Stout Brownies (Here), Fresh Strawberry Cake (Here), and Cinnamon Turnovers (Here).
I know most of us had a Mom who would make the Cinnamon Turnovers out of leftover pie crust dough. They're called by many different name throughout the country, but that's what my Mom called them.
I know you'll enjoy all these recipes!

Hot Cross Buns

I haven't been doing much over the last few days. But yesterday I wanted some of these, so made some up while it was rainy. Good day for it, too!  You're going to love these! I always use raisins, but I can remember having them when I was a kid and they had candied fruit. Make them either way you prefer. They'll always come out great!  Here's the recipe.

Bakery Style Blueberry  Muffins with Streusel Topping
7-Up Biscuits
Mrs. Dash Chili

I've got some great recipes today. The first one is Bakery Style Blueberry Muffins (Here). They are so moist and yummy!
My sister-in-law gave me the recipe for the 7-Up Biscuits (Here). I'd never heard of them, but OMG! They're great!
I came across some Mrs. Dash Chili seasoning at the store. Usually, I don't buy this kind of thing, but it was on sale, so thought I'd try it. You'll love it! It's great for a night when you're in a rush. Throw in a corn muffin and you've got a great meal. Check it out Here.

Hamburger Buns for ABM
Zucchini Muffins
Philly Cheese Steak Pizza

Wow! I can't believe it's been nearly 10 days since I've posted anything. I've got several great recipes for you. I've been busy baking since it's too cold and miserable outside to do anything. Here in NE Texas it's been below freezing for 3 days now. Yesterday we had freezing rain and sleet and a then there was still a bit of freezing drizzle this morning. Right now everything is melted since it's gotten just above freezing and the sun has peeked through a couple of times. There will be another storm tonight and this time with snow! They're saying we could get up to 3 inches!!! OMG!  So, I'll have lots of times to get all the recipes posted and to try new ones.
Today, we have some Hamburger Buns for your ABM - Here
Some really yummy Zucchini Muffins - Here
And! A totally wonderful Philly Cheese Steak Pizza - Here

Boston Brown Bread

As you all know I live in northeast Texas. But I was born and grew up in a town just north of Boston, Mass. Traditionally, a Saturday night supper consisted of hot dogs, baked beans and brown bread. We didn't have it every Saturday night, but at least once a month. I will make this up once in a while. I still love it! You can always buy the brown bread and baked beans in a can, but I prefer to make them myself.  Here's the recipe for the Boston Brown Bread. If you'd like to make your own baked beans, then go here.

After a heavy dinner, this is a nice light dessert. Check it out Here.

Beef Spaghetti Pie Ole
Bourbon Chicken

Today, I have two recipes that hubby and I really love. Neither one takes very long to fix. When you make the Bourbon Chicken, don't do what I did! The very first time I made it, I misread the recipe and added double the bourbon. Wow! It was good, but a bit strong. You can get the recipes Here and Here.

Best German Chocolate Cake
Vermont Whole Wheat Oatmeal Honey Bread
Skinny Vegetable Soup

I've got 3 yummy recipes for you today. And, before you wonder - the cake was the one I made for hubby for his birthday back on the 6th. It was long gone before I saw the doctor.  I didn't tell you? I saw the doctor on Monday and she told me to cut back on the goodies. The triglicerides are way too high - along with my weight. So, we have the bread and the soup. You can eat all the soup you want - very low in calories. You read more Here, Here and Here

I'm adding a couple more soup recipes. The Dolly Parton Cabbage Soup is from the Cabbage Soup Diet. You can eat as much as you want!   The other one is a Tomato Rice Soup that I made up many years ago because we were broke and these are the ingredients I had in the cabinet. Came out really good!

Special Vegetable Soup &
Hearty Split Pea Soup

Right now, we're having some really nice weather here in East Texas. But, it's still winter and the weather will get cold again. When it's cold, I want something that's nice warm - like soup. Don't you? These are two of my favorites. I sure hope you like them. Read more Here and Here

I'm really excited to be nominated for the One Lovely Blog Award.  Thank you so much Linda Simpkins. She has a wonderful blog called His Scattered Housewife. You should go and visit!  Now, I need to tell you all 7 things about myself. Are you all ready for this?

#1 - I have Multiple Sclerosis. I've been considered disabled for the last couple of years. But, I will not let this get me down! I still love to cook and collect recipes. I just have to do it on my "good" days. Thankfully, I have more of those then the bad ones. I'm also thankful that the type I have is the least of them - meaning that it progresses very very slowly. Let's hope it stays that way!

#2 - I absolutely love to do crossword puzzles. I always buy a large lot of them to keep me going for several months.

#3 - Hubby and I have been married for 10 1/2 years. (Second marriages for both of us) I have 2 grown children who have given me 7 beautiful grandchildren and 1 adorable great-granddaughter.

#4 - I love cats! When hubby and I first started going out, he really didn't like cats, but I already had one and she adored him! He got past that, and now we have 2 furbabies - Junior and Breeze (or as we lovingly call her - Bugzy). We feed the strays out around our apartment. Right now we've only got 5, but there have been up to 25 out there.  We just hate to see any of them go hungry.

#5 - I also love to crochet when I find some extra time and I love to read. Stephen King is my all time favorite. But, I also like Dean Koontz and John Saul. Wonderful authors!

#6 - I live in northeast Texas - a small town about 80 miles east of Dallas. Originally I'm from a town just north of Boston, Mass. I love New England and miss being there.

#7 - I hate housework! I'd much rather be in the kitchen or in front of the computer. Don't get me wrong - our apartment is clean enough. Hubby is such a sweetheart because he helps so much. I don't know what I'd do without him.

Now, I need to nominate 15 other blogs. Please visit them. I know you'll love them as much as I do! Here we go!

Guess what we're having for supper tonight?! It's cold today and there's nothing better then a hot bowl of tomato soup with a grilled cheese sandwich.   This recipe tastes almost exactly like that stuff in the can. You're going to love it!   Read More

White Chicken Chili

I do love this! But, I leave out the peppers and add just a 4 oz. can of chopped jalapenos. Like I've said before, hubby and I just can't take all that heat. This recipe was given to me by the same neighbor in Dallas who gave me the Chili Con Carne recipe. I usually put a dollop of sour cream on top.     Read More

Chili Con Carne

This is a really great chili recipe. I usually only add one jalapeno (if I have them) or a 4 oz. can of the chopped jalapenos. This recipe and the one for the White Chicken Chili was given to me by a friend a whole lot of years ago. She lived next door to us in Dallas. Such a nice lady! But, hubby and I just can't take the heat, so I cut back. For us, it didn't hurt the flavor at all. I most always serve this with cornbread and a dollop of sour cream.   Read More

Grandma's Hermits

My Gramma would make these every Autumn. The spice would make the house smell so good! Sometimes she'd make drop cookies and other times she would press the dough into a sheet pan and cut them into squares. Either way, they're great!                                   Read More
